I’ve been documenting my life in the antique & vintage jewelry world on Instagram since 2016. A common complaint I get is that my signature Reels (like these about Art Nouveau jewelry or April’s birthstone) show each piece too quickly and that I should slow down. I had a lightbulb moment when I received an angry DM:

“Your reels are too fast what’s the point😡”

Well, the point is to evoke a certain era or theme in jewelry design, so anyone can quickly grasp the style and qualities of the subject. After all, “a picture is worth a thousand words” and jewelry is a visual art form. The reels are evocative.

Our favorite jewels evoke memories and emotion. Compelling designs evoke a certain era or persona. Antique and vintage pieces, especially, evoke history and significance.

So, when I was naming my new venture, evocatrice sang to me. In French, it’s the adjective evocative, the essential quality I consider as I curate, and create, my collection. In English, evocatrice also suggests the status of a title, not just for me, but for my community: those who imbue every aspect of life with beauty & meaning.

This is where I will slow down & go deeper, sharing “jewel stories & storied jewels”
